Sorry.  I'm being a bit of an elitist, but let me answer your question with 
a question:  Doesn't LA have some culture/cuisine of its own to offer?

Here in New Orleans local culture/cuisine abounds, and if I were to propose 
a gathering place for a GR group of out-of-towners it sure wouldn't be at 
Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville Cafe.  Here I'd suggest the Praline Connection 
(soul food), or the Redfish Grill (creole), or if for Cajun, Mulate's, or...

I know I'm a spoiled brat, and I shouldn't deny you your Cajun food, but 
doesn't California have some of the best sushi available?
