Pynchon's weaknesses

I am curious to know which weaknesses of Pynchon's writings have been
off-limits for discussion on Pynchon-L due to the "hagiographic"
attitude Malign sometimes detects. I recall detailed discussions
about Pynchon's attitudes towards women, homosexuals, the sometimes
confusing density and complexity of his syntax, the sometimes
two-dimensional characteristics, just to mention a few areas in which
P-listers have expressed less than positive judgements. Several
P-listers consistently express negative views of M&D and Vineland. I
imagine that we might be able to sustain more discussion of aspects
of Pynchon's writings that some would call weaknesses, assuming that
such observations were offered in a spirit of critical discussion and
not simple-minded insults.
