GRGR(29): The Colonel's Dream

Such a wierd passage! and at the very beginning, on p. 642 ("Another
Krakatoa? Another name at least that exotic"), is the Bomb -- I seem to
recall its existence was hinted at once before; here it ushers in the
Colonel's kidnapping fantasy. The dream reminds me a bit of Slothrop's
truth serum dream -- coincidentally Slothrop seems to be somewhere near
by, playing his wop clarinet.

Why is the points man the "only kind of man who puts in very little work
and makes big things happen"? -- Is he a symbol for all managers
everywhere?

Dacoit: an ethnic group in Pakistan. I'm not sure why the Colonel is
scared of Dacoits in particular; maybe he is using the term to mean
"Asian person". There are no Dacoits in Happyville but there is a
robotic stand-up comic who is scared of cocaine imagery. Plus Dr. Jamf
is there, too!
