re. Trolls (was Re: Pynchon's weaknesses)

(a word to the wise for Dave and any other newbies.) 

The best way to avoid trolls is to leave them alone. They live under the
bridge, you see. But they can't hurt you. The footing's firm enough, the
planks well-trod. Though they might sound a bit like Billy Goats at first
you'll pretty soon get to recognise who the trolls are by the way they carry
on and, send their sky-hooks up as they may, it's best to leave them to
their dung-heap down there.
