I'll choose the Boy Scouts over  Hitler Youth any day, my friend.  So many
fewer Boy Scouts have signed on to implement the Final Solution, in the
final analysis.

Given Kai's recent onlist defense of Germany's persecution of Jews,  I
guess I'm not surprised at this comment in response to  my post. It wasn't
that long ago that he seemed to be  trying to equate U.S. and British
discrimination against Jews with the Nazi murder of 6 million Jews, a crime
that seems to have been made possible only by the active participation of
large segments of German society.  In fact, if I remember correctly, he was
arguing that U.S. and British attitudes towards Jews were actually worse
than Germany's.

Re censorship, which country was it that burned books in huge bonfires, all
the while building a social consensus for the genocide of the Jews, and
other undesireables, with books like the Protocols of Zion?

How soon some of us seem to forget.  Pynchon hasn't, of course. The
Holocaust, and a nuanced treatment of what leads to this kind of crime,
stand at the very heart of GR.

(I can play the wrap-m-personal-opinion-in-the-Pynchon-flag-game, too.)

P.S. If it doesn't bore the list, perhaps some day I'll share some of what
I've learned about the links between Nazi ideology and the
theosophicaly-rooted spirituality of the sort that our German friend so
often quotes. But that's another story.
