wait a moment! unfortunately the virtue of close reading is not very popular
these p-list days ... in my yesterday posting i introduced mr. millison as
"list-nazi". with quotation marks. picking up a formulation of his own posting
(- you know, couldn't resist, he simply - read it again! - called for it ...).
so, there are the quotation marks & there is the first word "list-". and i
think nobody could come on the idea i suggested mr. millison is involved in
fascist and/or genocidal activities ... but then, you may will say now, what
about the title? and this choice was a mistake. but not as simple as
suggested. the slogan "gib nazis keine chance!" was, as you and the other
german p-listers know, used by left-wing groups since the late 80s. it was
inspired by the state's anti-hiv campaign "gib a i d s keine chance!" not
only by its words but also by its graphical design "gib nazis keine chance!"
imitated the health campaign & harvested lots of laughter for its
de-humanizing field of associations. i always hated this slogan. it was used
in campaigns against the free speech of right wing people (- neo-nazis and
also non-nazis). and the most eager of the left censorship activists were, in
their "social psychology", always the most "fascist" ones ... persecutor types
... & of all this i was remembering when i puked because mr. millison brought
up his ugly censorship project again ... so the title of the mail was meant as
a description of the discourse-cop's mind. this connection i made with
introducing mr. millison as "list-nazi". with my last sentence i not only
pleaded against censorship on this list but also contextuated the
"list-nazi"-formulation and the title: "fuck censorship!" but since,
obviously, not even otto and you have understood this historical
reminescense to the contemporary german left, it must have been a real
mistake to use the title "gib nazis keine chance!". and even if: - it
supposedly still would have been a mistake. you know, since i'm writing this
p-list stuff also for a private collage book of mine, sometimes my
ober-ambitious longing for brilliance gets in the way of clearness ... i'll
try to dicipline myself a little, as long as these touchy political issues are
concerned ... oh, did i say that i'm definitely not interested in a moderated
p-list? this wouldn't be a list that derserves it to bear the man's name ...
& i'll go on speaking in out loudly: fuck censorship!
