Concerning the concept of 'World War'.  The First One over here (Belgium) is still called in popular speech 'Den Grooten Oorlog', the Great War.  Perhaps interesting to know that the end of WW1 (November 11th) is a holiday and the end of WW2 is not.  I have (very old) people heard referring to WW2 as 'den anderen oorlog' (the other war) or 'den tweeden oorlog' (the second war).  A museum on WW1 at Ypres has become recently one of the most popular in Belgium.
