----------
(571.32) It touches Slothrop's own Puritan hopes for the Word, the Word
made printers ink, dwelling along with antibodies and iron-bound breath in a
good man's blood, though the Word for him be always the World on Monday
[...]
----------

Ink is the counterpart to Slothrop's paper-heritage. It is the spiritual
message which needs the earth-bound medium for its manifestation. In the
Book of Changes ink would be hexagram #1: "The Creative," (male) and paper
would be #2: "The Receptive" (female).

It's interesting that this woman's image of her father is one of "flight."
Here is another father who has purposely left his family, not for the _War_
exactly, but for the Word, a noble cause. He would be an example of the
Counterforce, but the result for his family is still the same: abandonment.

BTW, how does a fatty like Slothrop manage to get so many women into bed
with him? Maybe it's got something to do with the "fatty" between his legs.
