Inanimate objects and contraception

The contraceptives that Profane nails to cabin doors are inanimate objects 
which, if they are used, prevent creation of life. Since "inanimate objects 
could do what they wanted," does this make Profane an agent of inanimate 
objects, perhaps bringing them and animate objects closer together (in fact 
as close as they can get, inside the human body)?
