The Electoral College factor is what makes a 3rd party "protest" vote
crucial only in "toss-up" states. In states clearly held by either Gore or
Bush a "protest vote" will show voter sentiment but will not be a factor in
deciding who wins. In a "toss-up" state the third party vote will be
decisive, giving the win to one of the other two.
Remember this: Two Supreme Court Justices will be seated by this next
President. THEY will be around for MANY MANY years to come (unless they die
first). For this reason, if no other, A vote for Gore is NOT "equal to" a
vote for Bush.
