I've just gone over the entries for words beginning with the
component "imi" (this time WEBSTER'S UNABRIDGED) - with the
exception of a group of chemical terms my observation holds........
(BTW

WEBSTER'S does not concurr, it offers Latin roots, imitatus/ imitari.
Mimesis, and related greek terms do indeed provide the root for
mime and mimic. I will have to check the OED to see if the latin term
has its roots in the greek one you offer, but I would think that
WEBSTER's would have suggested as much.
