OK, this may be far-fetched, but here it is:
"Polex" may be derived from Latin "polus", which means "pole", or, interestingly enough, "sky"; but it could also be derived from "polio", which means "to abrase" (isn't that where "abrasive" comes from?).
I don't think "Imi" has anything to do with "imitation"; you would need the "t" for that. On the other hand, it sounds (in Greek) like "hemi" ? or "semi", as it came to be in Latin, meaning, of course, "half".
In Japanese, "imi" means "meaning", "significance".
Or it could just come from the "imides" (which in turn comes from "amides"), certain cyclic compounds (forgive me: my knowledge of chemistry is quite limited). In chemistry, the prefix "imi" is used elsewhere as well, but I don't have any clue (yet) as to either its origin or its meaning.
