Willkie (from Wilcke, I think, as some Democrat investigators found on
his ancestors gravestones, thinking they could say that he was hiding
his German heart, which may be why they wanted to make it clear that it
was not pronounced Villkie) was indeed a globalist but he was running
against Roosevelt who was also a globalist, so Willkie had to curry the
favor of isolationists to get anywhere in the polls. His candidacy was
buoyed but ultimately damaged by their support. Germany had set up a
5-million-dollar fund in the U.S. to help Willkie's campaign.
