Young Republicans

If Oedipa was a Young Republican in 1966, what might that have meant?  My
understanding of Republican Politics dates from Reagan; I have heard that
Nixon, in love with power as he was, was not necessarily beholden to the
same interests.  And Lot 49 was pre-Nixon.  How much do we have to take the
evolution of the parties into account?
