How about this, in today's Boston Globe:
"regarding Eileen McNamara's July 29 column, "Passing the buck":
The way the Boston Globe constantly attacks the Catholic Church
and Cardinal Bernard Law is an affront and outrage to all fair
minded people.
To blame the entire church, its compassionate leaders and sincere
clergy for the despicable behavior of a few, is like blaming the
people of the United States for the conduct of Timothy McViegh.
I hope you will try to change the Globe's longstanding reputation of
attacking a church and a religion that has contributed so much in
hleping to build this city.
A great city like Boston deserves at least a fair newspaper.
Ray Flynn, South Boston
THe writer, formerly mayor of Boston, also served as US
ambassador to the Vatican under President Clinton."
the occasion of Mr Flynn's pique was the response to the recent
revelation that Law was informed of the charges of sexual abuse
lodged against a priest who, when subsequently assigned by Law
to another parish, simply increased the frequency of his
predations...
