My wife and I went to see it without knowing much about it before hand.
Our tastes in film diverge more than you'd think possible, but we both
thought 'Memento' was wonderful. It was so good, and so invasive, that
I was literally *dreaming* that s**t all night long after watching it.
It messes with the mind in a delightful way.
"Someone's complaint" about not being able to watch the film in some
other "way" is true, but totally misses the point. This is a movie
that MUST be seen in a theater, because if you were to watch it on
video the temptation to stop it, or worse backup and watch bits again
as you go along, would be averwhelming. And to give in to that impulse
would be to destroy the film utterly. You have to place yourself in
the director's hands and go along for the ride. Confusion in the
viewer is part of the experience. As Salieri is said to have said of
Mozart "Alter a note, and there would be diminishment. Alter a phrase
and the structure would fall."
It's just about that good... See it now before it comes out in video!
