Okay, see what I mean? Thanks, that's a great story,
exactly what I'd expect of him despite what little I
know. Went hunting for possible print references, but
the first, best thing I turned up was ...

Tarkovsky fans take note. But maybe see also ...
Creed, Barbara. "Alien and the Monstrous-Feminine."
Alien Zone. Ed. Annette Kuhn. NY: Verso, 1990.
128-144
Hurley, Kelley. "Reading like an Alien: Posthuman
Identity in Ridley Scott's Alien and David
Cronenberg's Rabid." Posthuman Bodies. Ed.
Judith Halberstam and Ira Livingston.
Bloomington: Indiana UP, 1995. 203-16.
Interesting, by the way, how Alien spawned not only
sequels but imitators with the same ferocious
fecundity as its titular, er, "character" did
offspring. I, for one, did not hate Pitch Black
(which, by the way, utilized one of those nifty
planetaria/orreries) ...
