Bosse Schon in his article "The Debate of the Day: Nazi Greetings in
the Halls of the Parliament" [he had written a book based on documents
from the secret police archives] stated among others:
After the war a number of Nazi supporters and fascists joined various
political parties, represented in the Parliament. One of them, Ragnar
Edenman, became the social-democratic minister for religious affairs,
governor of the Uppsala province, and chairman of the parliamentary
committee investigating the Olof Palme murder. In 1930, with the fascist
leader, Per Engdahl, he had founded the "New Sweden" society, where
among active members was Birgit (Grabe) Rodhe, the future education
minister [late 1970's] on Liberal Party ticket. Rolf Clarkson, representing
a right-wing party in the Parliament was a former leader of the United
Youth of Fatherland. When he met in the Parliament another earlier Nazi
sympathizer, P. O. Sundman from the Peasant Party, he greeted him with
a Nazi salute.
Schon found the names of 270 fanatical supporters of Hitler in Sweden.
The Swedish Nazis planned to annihilate 8,000 Swedish Jews. They
compiled detailed lists of these Jews and waited for the Nazi takeover.
The Nazi sympathizers, 50,000 strong, had their Brown Guard, which
was was supposed to emulate the Gestapo. There were plans to build
concentration camps, where the Jews would be kept before being
shipped to Auschwitz. This is the way it was done in Norway.
Schon found that Swedish scientists were in favor killing "inferior"
people (e.g. handicapped, mentally retarded). In 1921, at the suggestion
of social-democrats, the State Institute for Race Biology was established
in Uppsala. It was the first such institution in Europe. Its mission was
to maintain the perfect Germanic race and to save money on health
care. There were special race courses organized to inform the plain
folks, and race competitions held.
After the war, all of this was conveniently forgotten and the relevant
documents sealed until the year 2015, although the Swedish secret
police monitored carefully the activities of the former Swedish Nazis.
There have been no effort to bring to justice any of these people,
even those who committed vicious crimes on Jews and members of
the anti-Nazi resistance movement. Also, former fascists and Nazi
sympathizers have not been prevented from making careers in
national politics.
