Yes even twinkling through the mutton broth at the bottom of one's
spoon, are these,-- well, stories,-- Battles, religious Events,
Personages with rapt Phizzes standing about in Rays from above, pointing
aloft at who knows what, violent scenes of martyrdom from the religious
wars of the previous century, obscure moral instructions written in all
but-unreadable lettering, and in Dutch withal,-- framing the potatoes on
one's plate, or encircling some caudal Stufatta being passed from eater
to eater, and rotated as it goes, so that each gets to view a separate
episode of some forever obscure doctrinal dispute....MD.83
Bosch , Hieronymous. 1450?-1516. Dutch painter whose largely religious
works are characterized by grotesque, fantastic creatures mingling with
human figures.
Luther's middle term is the Devil. The Devil is bad shit. He's black,
his mass is black, he smells foul, like evil shit. At the climax of a
Black Mass they don't ring the bells and raise the heavenly host to
heaven, the Queen of the Sabbath lays prone and the sacred host is
prepared on her buttocks where a putrid concoction of repulsive offal of
various ways, menstrual blood, urine, and feces, is kneaded into a loaf.
see the Black Mass in V.
We remember that Dante the pilgrim must turn himself upright inside of
Satan's very own anus to enter Purgatory. In one of his beautiful
paintings of Hell Bosch enthrones the Devil on a privy, the souls damned
pass out of his arse and fall into a black pit.
"It is by being the negation of excrement that money is excrement; and
it is by being the negation of the body (the soul) that the ego remains
a body-ego."
---Norman O. Brown, "Apollo and
Dionysus"
