News: Pynchon interviewed in Playboy Japan re 9-11

I have no basis to question the authenticity of the interview, but I for one
certainly find it "odd" that Mr. P. would speak seemingly off the cuff to
Playboy Japan. When he was interviewed by David Hajdu for the book on
Farina, all correspondence was by fax. And when he spoke to CNN at the time
of the publication of M&D, my recollection was that he did it quite
reluctantly because the network was already planning a segment on him--I
believe he tried to dispute the Wanda Tinasky rumors and urged CNN not to
show his face.
Given that Jules Siegel's piece appeared in Playboy, it seems to me that
Playboy Japan would indeed be an odd choice. Just saying is all. I don't
claim to know the man the way some of you do.
