One thing that no one mentions much is that you simply
don't notice that these are by and large full-sized
adults playing Hobbts, Dwarves (Tolkien's
idiosyncratic spelling, I believe), et al. I imagine
smaller doubles were used for many shots where faces
weren't seen, but, nonteheless, whatever trickery was
involved, it didn't much call attention to itself,
though I imagine the seams may start to show when i
get 'round to seeing it again. But I was looking ...

Though the Elves did seem pretty Vulcan, no? But,
being of the Star Trek generation, that's how I've
always read 'em, so ... but I suspect many will sense

By the way, did you see TFOTR in French or in English?
Just curious, is all. At a badly attended preview of
Amelie (though it's been playing for some weeks
since), asked for an opinion afterward, I agve what I
considered to be a posterworthy soundbite: "The movie
you hate to love." Cheesy, overstuffed, but
endearingly so. But AI ... can't help but think,
there's some alternate universe in which Kubrick
either lived to complete it himself, or made it
instead of Eyes Wide Shut. Cannot believe it's
showing up on year-end "best of" lists here. But
(SPOILER WARNING) do note the WTC sticking up out of
the ice at the end. By the way, do see, e.g. ...

And I'd thought that was the final straw as far as
ridiculously unfounded speculations went there. Now
I've got ANOTHER type of global ecological disaster to
worry about ...
