I remember being required to sign a document while in elementary school 
back in the early '50s (I'm not making this up) that consisted of a long 
list of organizations, none of which I knew the first thing about, and a 
statement that I had never belonged to any of them.  Such was the 
prevailing paranoia regarding Communism.  You can never be too careful, I 
suppose.

Speaking of paranoia: some of my ancestors fought for the Confederacy, and 
some were in the tobacco business, so I guess I'm doomed.
