My son pointed out to me that the All Music Guide mentions that Pynchon
was a member of the band "The Insect Trust" in the 60s. This band was
put together by Rock critic Robert Palmer who I believe died last year.
Here's teh quote from the all music guide:
"Along with the loose-limbed music, the album Hoboken Saturday Night
features musical contributions by heavy hitters (no pun intended) such
as drummers Elvin Jones and Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, guitarist Hugh
McCracken, and novelist Thomas Pynchon."
When you click on Pynchon on this entry he pops up as having written
liner notes to three albums, one of which is the well known Lotion album
that was sitting on the desk of his banker, and the other was the Spike
Jones album that his wife got him to do. But the third entry I had never
heard of: a 1988 album by Cassiber entitled "Face We All Know."
According to the entry, this is the band's last of three albums, and they
entered the studio with prepared texts and improvised the music. The
texts were by, among others, Pynchon.
Anyone out there heard this album?
As usual, I am prepared for the deafening silence as the debate over
nits, etc continues.
Toby
