I really would urge anyone interested to check out that Michael Wood review
in the March 22, 1973 issue of the _New York Review of Books_. I dug out the
microfiche today and it's far superior to Locke's imho.
In terms of something to help a reader just starting out on Pynchon's work I
don't think you can go past the nifty little Twayne edition on _Thomas
Pynchon_ written by Judith Chambers. It's intelligent, concise and doesn't
get all caught up with abstruse theories or moralistic nonsense:
Chambers, Judith. _Thomas Pynchon_. New York: Twayne (Twayne's U.S. Authors
Series No 602), 1992.
