The burning of the Reichstag (parliament) building in
Berlin, on the night of Feb. 27, 1933, was a key event in
the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship and widely
believed to have been contrived by the newly formed Nazi
government itself to turn public opinion against its
opponents and to assume emergency powers. Adolf Hitler had
secured the chancellorship after the elections of November
1932, but his Nazi Party had not won an overall majority. He
therefore obtained Cabinet consent to hold new elections on
March 5, 1933. Meanwhile, his propaganda minister, Joseph
Goebbels, is supposed to have devised the scheme whereby 10
agents led by Karl Ernst were to gain access to the
Reichstag through a tunnel leading from the official
residence of Hermann Göring,
Reichstag president and Hitler's chief minister, who was
then to conduct an official investigation, which would fix
responsibility for the fire on the communists. The supposed
arsonist was a Dutchman, Marinus van der Lubbe, whom some
have claimed was brought to the scene of the crime by Nazi
agents. Others have contended that there
was no proof of Nazi complicity in the crime, but that
Hitler merely capitalized on van der Lubbe's independent
act. The fire is the subject of continued debate and
research.

But what I'm interested in is the "Jewish Lightning" and if
anyone knows where and when the phrase came into use. Is it
related to the phrase "Jewish lightning rod", perhaps in
some twisted way? 

In any event, at GR.580 Lyle Bland, we recall that when we
enter the Zone section with Slothrop on the DP train , S has
papers from Mario Schweitar, an Imipolex G contract, and
that Franz P. is on the customer end, and in these papers
there are lots of interesting business contracts,
transactions, connections, coal barons and robber barons, we
don't have time for yet, but we get the idea that "Uncle
Lyle" is a sinister bastard, unethical. So, as I'm reading
Leni's perspective on what happened to Pflaumbaum's business

"If (note the ifs, might haves, might this time,  ) the
Jewish wolf Pflaumbaum had not set the torch to his own
paint factory by the canal, Franz might have labored out
their days dedicated to the Jews impossible scheme of
developing patterned paint, dissolving crystals after
patient crystal, controlling the temptetures with obsessive
care so that cooling the amorphous swirl might, this time
might, suddenly shift, lock into stripes, polka dots, plaid,
stars of David--instead of finding one early morning a
blackened waste, paint cans exploded in great bursts of
crimson and bottle-green, smells of charred wood and
naphtha. Pflaumbaum wringing his hands oy, oy, oy, the
sneaking hypocrite. All for the insurance." 

So Franz and Leni were very hungry for a time... GR.160

The hypocrite Jew and his "Jewish lightning", Leni's
anti-Semitic POV. Is it credible?

Not to this reader. Her anti-Semitic POV is a give away, her
language, she's aware of it, Jews and Leftys, and she  sang
anti-Semitic street songs as a child, you can hear these in
any Nation, here in the States children in the 1960s sang, 

Marijuana marijuana, LSD, LSD,/ Rockefeller makes it,/
Richard Nixon take it,/ why can't we,/ why can't we. Where
is Henry/ Where is Henry/ making war/ making war/ How are
Jew today sir.... Knalt ab den Juden Rathenau,/Die
gottverdammte Judensau...",  the stereotype of the scheming
Jewish business man, the "Jewish Lightning" undermines her
story. 

Moreover, the sinister "Uncle Lyle is involved. And the man
gets sent east with many of his race. GR.582  Another direct
reference to the Holocaust.
