...never did like this thread idea much, esp. as much of what is posted
here runs both the warp and the weft of the (macro)conversation at hand,
so, as the subject heading says ....  I agree, claims are being
attributed to Doug that he didn't make, and that I have not been arguing
with him.  That I haven't necessarily been arguing with anybody in
particular.  But that have been proferred in argument with speculations
I have ventured, points I have made.  And, Jody, I agree, at least
provisonally, with pretty much everything there, all questions worth
asking.  Not butting in, not in the least.  But I would point out the
strong, to the point of intrusive, editorial effects of Ezra Pound on
T.S. Eliot's meisterwerk (decidedly decentering any notion of "authorial
intention" there), and would ask, just how explanatory are those
footnotes, anyway?  And cf. Samuel Beckett's seeming parody in his
(though some would say ghostwritten by James Joyce) (first published, I
believe, and written for a competition ... which he entered after the
deadline, but won nonetheless) poem, "Whoroscope" ...
