list reflections

't's a question of signal and noise, i'n't it . . . I shifted over to
the digest version a couple of months ago, as I was getting overwhelmed
by numbers of posts and thought I could do with one or two deletions a
day in place of 20 or 30 . . . what I do now is skim the digest, which
means I hardly ever feel the temptation to reply . . . apart from Ivan's
comments, which (contra s/z) I didn't find at all the usual newbie
interjections before knowing the terrain . . . reasonable, common-sense
questions about what's evident in yr mailbox . . . I stay on the list
for the links that turn up, which I probably wouldn't find on my own,
and for the "signal" part on P's works . . . and for P-related news, for
which there really isn't a better channel . . . don't know any useful
filter for the noise, though . . . something these lists are prone to. .
. .

Several posts come through in MIME format, which means we get the
message and then a repeat with visible codes and odd line breaks. Any
way to correct for that before it goes out in digest form?

Posters can screen out some noise by minimizing the degree of previous
posts being quoted.
