underworld too long?

happy new year all,

one of the things i did over my 3 week break at the beach in the new
zealand sun was read underworld, and while i enjoyed it, my expectations
were not quite met. halfway through i was thinking that the book was
amazing, but by the end i felt it had outstayed its welcome. reading GR,
MD, JR and the Tunnel, i felt sad each time i was nearing the end, as i
didn't want them to finish. underworld, i thopught would have been stronger
if it had been 200 pages shorter. did anyone else feel this?
