I'm really sorry to hear about Mordecai Richler. I've mentioned him once on this list. 'Salomon
Gursky was here' is his best, I think. There is nothing wrong with being a superior story teller.
He had a funny way of weaving characters like Duddy Cravitz (I hated the end of that novel) into
other novels. And his novel 'Barney's Version' was an impressive attempt to write down how a
dementing mind functions. Politics were always just around the corner. And (jewish) humour. A bad
day for Canadian literature.
Ever noticed how people were always eating, or talking food in his books?
