 there is a film-essay by john akomfrah with the title "the last angel of  
 history" [1996]. it deals with the afro-diasporic experience in a    
 benjaminesque perspective. (the movie's title is taken from the    
 "geschichtsphilosophische thesen"). focussed gets the issue of     
 "extra-territoriality" in the musical works of sun ra, george clinton, and lee 
 scratch perry. to akomfrah the alien motif appears as a metaphor for the     
 afro-diasporic experience. very instructive, beautiful colors. especially  
 akomfrah's shades of yellow are incredible ... last week i saw his  
 satchmo-essay on tv, which i liked very much, too.
