Lothrop?

The Lothrops were a fairly prestigious family in
long-standing in early Colonial New England,
responsible in part for a variety of building
developments in what was early Jamestown, as well as
the construction of what would later become
Hawthorne's Custom House.
The earliest Lothrops were architects from a province
outside London, who specialized in sidewalk
development. Many of the wooden sidewalks that would
later line the streets of Dickens's London were of the
Lothrop design (which included a slight elevation and
tilt streetward, for better rain flow).
As I recall, there was some sort of scandal
surrounding the Lothrop family name, leading them to
venture to the New world about two years after William
Bradford's first arrival. Anyone remember details?
However, I'm sure this has been explored already on
the list.
