Which reminds me ... can't recall where I read
this--and I'm largely posting this in the hope sthta
someone might remind me--but not only is "gates"
apparently a slang term of some sort, perhaps
referring to to some sort of hipster acquaintance, a
la "cat" or "dude" or whatever?  But it's also used as
such in one or the other of Pynchon's novels, I'm
assuming V., because it's the one I've most recently
been redaing, but ... but I remember hearing overtones
of both logic "gates," circuits or somesuch, as well
as, well, a more anatomical allusion as well (if
anyone's seen the Oscar-nominated short, "Seraglio,"
perhaps you know what I mean ... though I think maybe
Miriam does already, so ...).  Oh, and, er, "Frenesi"
backwards = "I see nerf"?  Sorry, just in the habit,
is all ...
