Dear all,
I need some help on the following.
>From V., p 375. "Whatever it was it [Panky's supernal talent] drew Pig
out to Virginia Beach all his liberty and a few duty nights. One duty
night, Scaffold bound, he wandered down to C&O compartment after the
movie to find the quartermaster [Groomsman] swinging from the overhead
whooping like an ape"
Now, I am aware of the following from Tim Ware's Guide to V.
<http://www.hyperarts.com/pynchon/v/c.html#co>
> C&O compartment
> 375; a cargo compartment from the Chesapeake & Ohio railroad; can be seen all over the central East Coast, distinctive for their truly weird logo, which is a vague blob in the shape of a cat, ostensibly named "Chessie."
but I still can't get it. Pig is restrained on Scaffold, right? And
after the movie (a regular entertainment for the crew, I guess) goes to
... a cargo compartment fron the Chesapeake & Ohio railroad? Where is
this compartment from the ceiling of which Groomsman is swinging? Aboard
the Scaffold? If yes, why is it there?
Thanks.
