Doug, I asked my friend Byron about the book, and he wrote to me:

"What I read about Pynchon, or quoted from Pynchon, was wonderful, very
candid.  In one section he was upset with the removal of one section of
"Been Down So Long..." -- a section where Farina changes the titles of
famous books so that they have the word "cunt."  "Catcher in the Cunt,"
"Winnie the Cunt," etc.  Publisher said it had no redeeming value, the cunt
section, while Pynchon said that it was funny, and that funny is redeeming
enough.  Yeah, that's my kind of Pynchon...  Though I can't agree with him
that RF's novel is a work of genius.
When I went through the index of Hadju's book, I found about 25 - 30 pages
of TP material."
