Pynchon & journalists

I've read all the Pynchon material in Hajdu's book, too. It gives an
interesting insight into how he (Pynchon) views himself at that period, how
he compares himself with Farina, some things P did, etc. And, it gives the
feeling of having been edited from a larger mass of material, hence my
speculation about what will become of that remaining material.

By the way, Pynchon's cooperation with Hajdu was reported in a New York
newspaper, I forget which, some years ago, perhaps as long ago as 1997, and
was discussed among P-listers. I don't have time to check the archives now
but I know that some of us were talking about it offlist, if not onlist, and
it was discussed at the Pynchon conference in London and Antwerp, too.

So, for some years, it's been known that Pynchon cooperated with this
journalist. Also, discussed in some detail on Pynchon-L in 1997, Pynchon
had an interaction with CNN regarding that network's broadcast of video
images purporting to include Pynchon himself, with CNN choosing to honor
Pynchon's request that he not be identified with any particular image.

There have been other reports, from trusted sources, of other interactions
between Pynchon and journalists that have not become public knowledge. I
expect that one day, in P's lifetime, we'll see something significant
published about him with his cooperation.
