reclusive in NYC

Every that lives in NYC is a recluse. As Willy Low-man
says, it comes with the territory. Saw Tom Wolfe in a deli
out in Montauk, the end of LI, he was buying sanwich, he
waited in line like the rest of us. Tom Wolfe is on the Tube
all the time, you know what he looks like even if he
is wearing blue jeans and a polo shirt (red not white) and his books can be
found on the beaches in the Hamptoms and on the book shelves of yuppies all
over the Big Apple (the man in full is all
about shit, money and the word,) but no one said, "hey, Tom
Wolfe, can you sign my copy of M&D." No, Pynchon is not
unknow because he hides or lives like some paranoid
character in a Delillo novel, he goes to church, to the deli, to the
library, to the theater like everyone else and no one
cares, it's NYC and he's not a rap star. The reclusiv
"myth" as doug calls it, was not created by Jules (why doug
insists in bad mouthing jules is his problem), but
by a combination of things, not the least of which is the
incestuous conversations in the pynchon industry.
