I think the Eurosceptics would be deeply offended by that accusation. Right-wing Tories are quite capable enough of being bloody-minded, bigoted and sentimentally nationalistic without undue pressure
from anyone else. Others of all political hues care deeply about our national sovereignty and want to preserve it at all costs.
Personally I tend to think it doesn't really matter what the money's called, as long as you've got enough of them.
Besides, if the USA want the UK to do something, they just need to ask, no manipulation is necessary. The British Government is so desperate to be seen as the USA's best buddy, they'll do anything
they're told. It's faintly embarrassing. This state of affairs has existed for some time - there was a 1960s Private Eye cover by either Scarfe or Steadman, showing Harold Wilson with his tongue wedged
between Lyndon Johnson's buttocks. And it's not for nothing that Orwell called this country Airstrip One in 1984. All stems from the situation our Mr P outlines in GR.
The Special Relationship.
(Stifles laugh)
(I've had a thought just now - are there parallels between the White Visitation and Bletchley Park, or is the latter one of those things that's just become interesting to people over the last few
years, and since GR was written?)
