I agree. I happened to catch their first movie, _Blood Simple_, some years
back, and have been a big fan ever since. _The Big Lebowski_ is a classic.
I even liked _The Hudsucker Proxy_ when I saw it a couple of weeks ago, even
though it was so stylised. But that was all part of the *deliberate*
intertextuality of it (i.e. the "intertextualism"). Like Pynchon, they
pastiche the *style* of other great directors and film genres, and this is a
big part of the appeal of their work.
If you've never seen _Blood Simple_ I really recommend it.
