BERLIN (Reuters) - A leading German television anchorman faced calls to
resign from conservative political leaders Wednesday for comparing the
``thought patterns'' of President Bush with Osama bin Laden.
In an article he wrote for the German magazine Max, Wickert quoted Indian
novelist Arundhati Roy saying: ``Osama bin Laden is America's family secret,
the dark lookalike of the American president.''
Wickert added: ``Bush is not a murderer or a terrorist. But the thought
patterns are the same. And Bush and Berlusconi have this in common: they are
both intolerant.''
Angela Merkel, leader of the opposition Christian Democrats (CDU), and other
conservatives said ARD television news reader Ulrich Wickert should be
removed from the state-backed public broadcasting network.

Subject: RE: CENSORSHIP Bill Maher
The (organized) effort to get him off the air is censorship. Maher isn't
middle-of-the-road, he's all over it. I've never heard of lefty peacenik
types trying to get him fired. It's only in this conservative pre-battle
period that criticism is turning to calls for his head on a pike. I'm
afraid that demands for censorship is one of the first signs of nascent
fascism. God help America.
