i was wondering about that long crooked finger sticking up from Osama's 
fist like that. 

oh, i think this bombing is 100% wrong. it is just Bushie's way of 
showing us Americans he has a big you-know-what. he is, after all, 
essentially up for relection right now, beginning Sept. 11. these bombs, 
all this hardware, will do nothing but create new enemies for us, in 
Afghanistan and all over--and keep Americans glued to the tube for a 
little longer. what's more spectacular than all those CNN shots of our 
tax dollars at work--finally! wow, and bunker-busters, too!

strange fact: last Sunday, when the bombs had just begun to fall and the 
"war" was at last underway, NYC TV channels showed no less than four war 
movies, not one of which -- zero -- had been listed in the local papers' 
TV skeds. (one of them, strangely, was Catch-22, with a v. young Martin 
Sheen.)

i am working now maybe 15 blocks from the WTC, and "the smell" is in the 
air again. almost like some strange kind of tobacco, but not quite. flesh?
