Number One Consumer Fetishist, me, right up to and
including action figures (they're NOT dolls, okay
...?). The only thing that kept me from continuing to
buoy the economic boat myself in the following week or
so was that nasty computer worm that went around,
interfering not only in MDMD2, but in my acquisition
of much of the material I might have used therein (I
actually BUY most of this stuff) and then some ...

And had my various Brooklynian friends been prepared
to have me in the weeks after the attack, I'd've been
perfectly willing to fly out--I'd cleared out a few
weekends on either side on the off chance.
Fortunately, though, that "My Reality: Contemporary
Art and the Culture of Japanese Animation" that closed
last weekend at the BMA is coming to the Chicago
Cultural Center next summer, so ...

But there's an awful lot of "normal" life beyond
"conducting business" and "shopping," albeit,
admittedly, and, perhaps, sadly, very little that to
any real extent escapes such pursuits (of property, as
Thomas Jefferson, in a moment of candor, wanted to
write, rather than happiness, as the
post-Revolutionary P.R. boys eventually had him put
it) ...

Howzabout, say, not being suspicious of each and every
Arabic-American (or otherwise) we otherwise might not
even notice as such? How about not cursing or
crank-calling them, vandalizing their property and
threatening their persons? Okay, so that's not
"normal" in These You-Knighted States anyway, but ...

But perhaps you get my point now (?). It's a matter
of priorities ...
