hopes & realities

If, as rj/rjackson/jbor/? suggests, "the international coalition against
terrorism is hoping to achieve" the neutralization of terrorist
organizatiosn without causing millions of innocents to suffer and die, the
US is doing a great job of undercutting those hopes with the tactics
adopted to date. International humanitarian aid organizations are calling
for a halt in the bombing in order to permit shipment of sufficient
quantities of food and other supplies, hoping thus to prevent the death of
millions due to starvation and exposure this winter. The U.S. could focus
its efforts to make this happen, but doesn't seem to be willing to do so.
The gap between the PR spin of U.S. rhetoric and the reality on the ground
in Afghanistan grows every day that the bombing, and resulting chaos,
prevents shipment of humanitarian aid.
