Just off hand, any reason for the number choice - 49? Close to S.F., what
better number. 49ers are Gold miners that came to San Francisco during the
Gold Rush of that year right? Sure enough... this from a random web page:
In 1849, 38'000 men arrived by the sea and 42'000 by the ground. These men
will be called "The Forty-Niners" because we were on 1849. The majority of
these men were underprivileged son, adventurers or even more unwanted
politicians.
And don't forget the Tristero!
Who is that secret bidder?
Cohen: "That our mysterious bidder may be from the Tristero and saw the
description of the Lot in the auction catalogue. And wants to keep the
evidence that Tristero exists out of unauthorized hands. I wonder what kind
of price they'll offer." p. 176
The Tristero came to SF in 1849, I believe is what we are told... from my
Tristero Post yesterday recall:
>The article concludes with the Tristero drifting off after 1848... By far
>the greatest number, however, fled to America during 1849-50
So they are also 49ers and they are secretly trying to bid on lot 49 which
has their stamps in it... This is what we being led to believe, I think.
