weighing in

When I stopped subscribing to the PList about a year ago (my address was
nohed36 at the time), one of my main motives for leaving was my irritation
at the endless strings of nonsensical bickering that filled up my mailbox
everyday- so I'll keep this short.
I have a dedicated email address (this one) where I check up on the PList
every week or so- against my better judgement- to see what the current read
is, and what's being said about the man and his books. I don't have time to
follow along anymore, I'm swamped and working for almost-free, but I like to
keep a hand in.
In the last few days I haven't even thought to check in here, but tonight,
in my cups, I thought I'd stop by. It was creepy (as creepy as everything
else these days) to go through the digests, from the lines about TRP's bird
parallels and the gearing up for the M&D read, then the trickle, then flood
of news, panicked questions, first-hand reports. Then, as quickly as in the
non-virtual world, the drawing of lines and the taking of sides.
Boy howdy, do I love some of y'all for being aware of how this is being
manipulated by ruling-class bozos trying to cover their own asses, (and, for
being Pynchon fans, to boot!) But there it was, again, just like in the
non-virtual world, just like my corner bar, jingoistic militaristic
crapahoolie about them bad a-rabs and how they can't do this to us cuz we've
got much bigger dicks, red white and blue ones, even.
I don't know, that's all. Thanks. Good luck on M&D

(suprised by the Franzen thread synchronicity- just picked up Twenty-Seventh
City out of a galleys box at the bookstore on a whim, finished it on the
weekend, muy excellente!)
