Arne,

Please don't let a couple of war-mongering bigots
dissuade you from posting. Their tactics -- like those
of the terrorists they profess to despise -- would
silence your calls for tolerance, patience,
understanding. It's akin to the kind of thinking that
has led, quite unfortunately, to several killings of
Muslims (or people might appear, to ignorant yahoos,
to be Muslims, among them one bearded and turbanned
Sikh) in recent days -- the anti-Arab backlash has
reached such proportions that the Director of the FBI,
in his press conference this morning, postponed
crowing about the bang-up job that agency is doing to
track down and eradicate evil from the world, in order
to issue a stern call for U.S. residents to refrain
from such hate crimes, warning that the FBI would not
tolerate them.  He didn't offer any insight into the
tactics  the FBI might use to prevent hate crimes, nor
did he address in any detail the example that the FBI
has set in the past by targeting innocent citizens and
investigating or otherwise harassing them in the
absence of any evidence of wrongdoing (cf. FBI files
on Thomas Pynchon -- so I've heard--, The Rev'd Martin
Luther King, Jr., and many others).
