Yea well, I call it being direct. This isn't about some dry 'objective' lit crit
discussion, that may be your desired p-list but it isn't the list I've been part
of these last few years. That has been a varied bunch of individuals engaging
harmoniously , and not, in all manner of ways, ranging from utterly detached to
intensely personal.
You fly your religious flag as much, if not more, than any of us lefties fly our
various banners. It is you and the way you present your arguments I am
responding to, not your arguments alone. If you want to use 'ad hominem' as a
cry of "foul" so be it but that's only according to the rules you've made up.
>Why do we fuss and fight over Lefty politics and the like? Well, this
>has something to do with the fact that people like Mike and Doug and
>others, tend to argue that we readers of P's novels **should** agree on
>the texts even if we disagree about matters of detail.
Some of us defend the reading of P as a left sympathiser because others seem to
spend a lot of energy making out that his ability to create sympathetic
characters across the spectrum means he hasn't made up his own mind. Replace
"Lefty politics" with religion and "Mike and Doug" with one of your names in the
above statement and you have the substance of your revealed position.
A-anyway I've never argued we **should** agree on the texts...
