Christianity and Terrance

If he's really a Christian, he doesn't need any book but the Bible.  That's 
what my grandma would have said.  Pynchon was raised in a religious milieu, 
granted.  I actually went through eighteen years of Sunday School, memorized 
verses, received awards for perfect attendance, was baptized by immersion at 
the age of ten. 
I am not now a Christian.  Pynchon is probably not now a Christian.  I don't 
see a dominant Christian theme in his writings.  I see a lot of implied 
criticism of the Institution.  The ethics of Christianity are shared by all 
the world's religions, including paganism & Marxism.  It is not unique, 
except perhaps in its fear of death & loathing of sexuality.  Does my early 
Christian indoctrination affect my life?  Of course.  Does it affect 
Pynchon's life & work?  Of course.
