The family Bennett (the name a bit more common that Pynchon's) does not have a
history that is as connected to American history as Pynchon's. Just a good,
plain, (Irish ?) family. It is known that Katherine Bennett had a very devout
catholic sister, who died in the early 60s, and (if I remember well, I think
she was a teacher) was member of some of these catholic societies with funny
names.
In 1985, a French journalist, working for Libé, insisted on having an interview
with Katherine Bennett, mr. Pynchon's mother. The only thing she said to him
was: 'My son want to be left alone. So we leave him alone.' End of interview.
John and Judith Pynchon (younger brother resp. sister) refused to talk to the
man.
By the way, Thomas R. Pynchon sr., who died in 1995 I think, had at least one
family member, with the name of 'Roth'. Jewish?
No connections in the family with Morgan, Winthrop, . . . and so: not very
interesting for the kind of novelist mr. Pynchon is.
Terrance asked:
"Why do you think so little has been written about P's mother and her family?"
Otto's response:
"I assume that, for good reasons, there's no additional info on these personal
topics available."
