Being that The Magic Mountain is a permanent fixture on my top ten all
time novels, I wouldn't want to contradict Kai's opnions.  But The Magic
Mountain was published in 1924.  This cannot be considered contemporary
literature.  

Neither, in my HUMBLE OPINION can Beckett. All of his important work was
done by 1953.  Even as old as I am, I would not stretch contemporary
literature into that wide a bandwidth.
