MDDM Ch. 72 Dixon and the slave driver

Right, Dixon hits the man. He PLACES his fist in the way of the Driver's
incoming face. 
The Driver immediately cries out and stumbles away. 

Is this surprising? Not to me. Dixon is not a pacifist Quaker. The text
makes this as clear a s a bell. He is a violent guy. The Driver called
him out. Dixon sees the Driver with Slaves. What can he do? He has to
act. It's in his character just as it is in Mason's character not to
confront the slave driver.
